Employee Engagement
Research consistently shows that highly motivated individuals exercise their ‘discretionary behaviour’, increasing their own satisfaction and enhancing the output of the organisation. These are functions of leadership, and better trained leaders are more likely to achieve better engagement of their staff, and these skills can be taught and learned.
Who is it that makes this happen - or stops it?
- The team leader.
Who inspires or blocks the team leaders?
Middle Managers
Formula for success: Work hard to make sure that those middle managers are committed and enthusiastic. If they are not - listen to them to find out why, and put those things right.
If they are too far gone - push them a bit further and put someone in their place who CAN actually lead a team.
The 'Holy Grail' of Organisation Development is a culture where employees are able to apply techniques to identify opportunities to improve the systems or processes they use every day, to align these to the needs of their customers (clients, stakeholders) .
Nobody comes to work so that they can go home at the end of the day and moan about how awful everything is - if your people are doing that, it is probably your fault.
